Built in 1977, West Nipissing General Hospital has clean, modern furnishings with more than 100 beds in use at all times. The hospital operates a 24/7 emergency department, frequented by general practitioners, surgeons, anaesthetists and internists. West Nipissing General Hospital regularly hosts cardiology, urology, nephrology, otolaryngology, endoscopy, surgical lumps and anti-nebologists, as well as psychiatric clinics and specialist visits. There is an excellent transfer relationship between the Nipissing Western General Hospital and the North Bay Regional Health Centre and Health Sciences North in Sudbury. West Nipissing General Hospital is the sponsor of a mental health and addictions program. The program is located on site with 2 bilingual psychiatrists. Chapel services, volunteers and a tuckshop help provide quality care and meet the needs of the community. West Nipissing General Hospital works with the Telemedicine Network of Ontario to provide consultations and follow-up visits with specialists. In addition, the Ontario Telemedicine Network organizes numerous educational events for employees and physicians. West Nipissing General Hospital offers a satellite oncology program on the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre`s regional cancer program. Chemotherapy services are provided to West Nipissing residents Laboratory technology performs a variety of laboratory technical tasks that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
